Carsten Regild

Carsten Regild’s major solo exhibition at Kulthurhuset 1990 was called "Terra Incognita return journey". Regild definately operated on terra incognita–unknown territory. The resentful artworld of him time found he moved too freely between advertising and art. He worked with a heavy imagery full of symbols, that was considered too close to the language of advertising. Restitution came, as so often, after the artist's death, but today his work as a colorful, border-crosser with an enormous creative force is well recognized. Regild himself was inspired by the Dada movement's anarchic, free approach, and he worked with all art forms. He is perhaps best known for his collages. The wolf was a symbol that often recurred in his imagery and the journal "The Wolf" which he co-founded is today seen as a classic in Swedish magazine history.
