Ernst Billgren's artistic production includes such diverse disciplines as painting, sculpture, scenography, literature, film, music, children books and furniture design. The motives that are recognisable from Billgren's artistry is especially his studies of nature, of national romanticism and of mythology. With unmistakable craftsmanship, he works with various materials such as mosaics, wood, bronze, cement, tile and glass. His works often combine historical notations and references, as well as people's perceptions of art in a willingness to examine the present and artistic conventions. Ernst Billgren is since 1997 member of the Academy of Fine Arts. He is also an excellent tennis player.
