Born in 1973, lives and works in Stockholm. Educated at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm from 1997 - 2002. Fredrik Brånstad’s paintings carries a certain mood. He constructs places made up of references, art-historical as well as contemporary, which blend together into new pictures. Brånstad’s works depict reduced surfaces that build up architectural conditions. His image world resides at the boundary between security and vulnerability, where the public space becomes the carrier of the subjective experience. Through his craft, he creates an expression where personal presence in the created spaces and environments is an important carrier of the content. He puts great effort in finding the point where the formal and the content support each other, how to treat the color, which approach to have to material and format. And also, how the relationship between painting, room and viewer appears.
