Mari Rantanen

Mari Rantanen

Mari Ratanen works with geometric and organic forms in her pictures and draws her influences from art history and popular culture, for example paintings, architecture and everyday life. Using various patterns and forms she creates space and movement. The paintings should express energy, harmony and different emotions. Painting is a method of visually creating structure and expressing thoughts. Mari's wish is that the paintings are open – that everyone might find their own way of entering into them. In the midst of the terrifying chaos that the world currently finds itself, paintings have become places where people can rest and allow their wounds to heal. Mari Rantanen (born 1956) lives and works in Stockholm and New York. She studied at the Pratt Institute, New York, USA from 1982 to 1983 and at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, Finland from 1975 to 1979. 1996 – 2005 she was a professor at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts Stockholm.
