The title of the show along with the poster-like motives of Benedict’s paintings surely evokes a sense of nostalgia. At a first glance, the works might even appear as mere representations of vintage movie posterns, film scenes or iconic photographs. Stepping closer, discovering the skill of Benedict’s craft – most remarkably his use of colour – this illusion is rapidly dissolved. But the question remains: what do the pictures remind us of?
