About the show
A generous retrospective of twenty-four works, all made since the 1990s, by this internationally celebrated Mexican artist born in 1967. His seminal work, The Beetle Trilogy, consisting of a large scale installation laying bare every part of a Volkswagen Beetle, literally hovers at the center of the exhibition. This particular model of car is strongly connected to artist’s Mexican heritage, where the Beetle was for a long time affordable for many. Ortega himself drove one for years. The performance Moby Dick is another part of the trilogy and took place at the opening. It involves man’s struggle with the machine. Documentation of the event is available online.
