If you like Marina Abramovic you are going to love Merzedes Sturm-Lie. Just like Abramovic she is fascinated by violence (meat-hooks and guns) and like to use her own naked body to lure the art lover into her work. But her meat-hooks are not a personal fetish but rather a symbol for the institutionalised violence which is the basis of our civilisation. Now she is showing paintings from Baku in Azerbajdzjan were the Nobel-brothers where striking oil in a wild and ruff environment in the 1880’s. The three brothers success means that we can enjoy the Nobel prize today. We should be grateful – don’t you agree. Merzedes Sturm-Lie will exhibit brand new paintings made in Baku, Azerbaijan and Brussels, Belgium.
