The late Maria Adlercreutz (1936 – 2014) was active in reforming Swedish textile art. After graduating in 1962 from Konstfack University College of Arts Crafts and Design in Stockholm, she embarked on a journey to produce art that would be in keeping with her belief in global solidarity. Her works from the early 1970s reflect the political situation of the time. Her tapestries are inspired by photographic imagery taken in Vietnam. This is the first retrospective of her work, and includes intimate studies of nature and works portraying the working history of women. The show fits the premises in more than one sense: Adlercreutz, the daughter of Akke Kumlien, the gallery’s director, lived here in the 1940s.
