While visiting the Arizona State University Art Museum in Tempe, Arizona in the US, the Danish art trio SUPERFLEX made a significant discovery. They realized that the celebrated painting, Pioneer and the Indian, attributed to Frederic Remington, was in fact a fake. The ramifications of this discovery are the starting point for this exhibition that sparks a deeper discussion around identity and authenticity from a specifically Scandinavian perspective. Various historical documents are on display together with a film, The Parley, featuring a reenactment of the event portrayed in the famous painting.
