About the show

Gothenburg Museum of Art presents a solo exhibition with works by Tove Jansson - one of Scandinavia's most beloved artists. She was bold in her life and in her art, a curious and open-minded seeker who questioned the authorities and constantly found new forms of expression. The exhibition broadens the perspective to Tove Jansson's colourful life and presents her many careers as an artist, illustrator, caricaturist, cartoonist and creator of the world-famous Moomin characters. As a visual artist, she was a colourist who admired Matisse and a monumental painter who mastered the large surfaces. As a cartoonist, she was one of the most ingenious of her time.
